Lectio Divina
Read Hebrews 4:12-16
Read this passage slowly three times.
What phrase lingers in your mind? Which parts do you want to read through quickly as if they aren't there? Let Jesus read the passage to you? Where does He stop and linger?
So much of our lives is spent covering up past mistakes and doing all we can to avoid looking foolish that we don't really see what's happening. I once read that people are more afraid of public speaking than of dying! Death is prefer able to standing in front of people looking foolish. What if you were convinced that at death that is exactly what would happen, your life would be laid out before you and you would have to explain every dirty thought, evil action, and cowardly attitude of your life.
The Scriptures tell us that some day all will be laid open, what is now hidden will be made known, all the secrets will be shouted out. What then, die a second time? [perhaps] Paul tells us our faith and hope is in One who knows what it is like to be tempted. He knows the pressure we're under and He knows how devastating our failures can be to us and to those we love. Yet, Paul announces, He never failed so He is the only one who can help us overcome the mess we've made of things. If your lost in the forest, the only person worthy anything to you is the One who knows the Way Out. This assumes, of course, you know your lost and prefer not to be.
So much of my life is consumed with trying to present to the world an image of who I believe I am suppose to be. Better, smarter, stronger, etc. But the Word of God is not fooled. Against such Truth I can only trust in the Presence and Power of Jesus to find me and lead me Home. I was not made for this World!
