Lectio Divina
Isaiah 43:15-21
I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel's Creator, your King."
This is what the LORD says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.
>> "Do you not perceive it?"
There is almost an tone of exasperation in God's voice through Isaiah. I am doing a new thing, bringing life to the desert, and hope to the forgotten. Do you not see, can you not sense it, can you no longer believe?
On a scale of 1[sahara desert] to 10 [rain forest] how would you rank your spiritual life right now?
For me I suppose I'm more of a moist clump of trees, but I find it changes so quickly. With one critical complaint, in blows a dry wind that dries up my passion and send my spirit running for cover. But every now and I then, I can sense God pass by and so help me I long to be in that time and place. I cannot describe it to you for it is beyond word, but I can tell you that it is a refreshing and invorgating as anything I know.
Its is our past, isn't it? That keeps us from going from perceiving God I mean. We hold more firmly to the phrase, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." [Eccl. 1:9]. We are marked by our past, our heritage, and our genetics. We cannot escape our past, but we can transform it. We can take the desert, water it with love and forgiveness, and make a new thing grow.
It takes Desire -- the urgency to make a change before its too late
Determination -- the willingness to follow through despite the hardships, ridicule, and setbacks.
Dream -- what is possible when you believe in miracles and the God who makes them happen
What "new thing" would you ask God to do in your life, in the desert of your existance, that would grow and produce a great crop? If you have no desire for something new, it is unlikely you will receive it.
"Surprise me, Lord, as a seed surprises itself"
