The story of Jesus healing the paralytic in Mark 2:1-14 is more than just another example of Jesus' power of healing and restoration, it is also the dedication and compassion of a group that brought this paralytic to Jesus. It is not enough to know the truth if you never do anything with it. It is not enough to know Jesus if you don't have the love to share him, his message and his family with a hurting world.
There is a famous quote, I don't remember by whom, that I think sums it up perfectly,
"The only thing necessary for Evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing."
This morning we focus on our need to be a healing community, to be responsive to the needs around us and connect with hurting world.
Compassion is a sympathetic understanding of another person’s pain with the desire to relieve it.
“The difference between suffering which destroys us and suffering which transforms us begins with the presence of a caring, thoughtful friend who is willing to acknowledge that brokenness with us.”—Ron Johnson, from Broken, We Heal
