On August 12, 1912 a group of faithful men and women to gathered at the corner of Williams Avenue in Williamstown, WV to celebrate what God had accomplished through them. They stepped out in faith and with full and grateful hearts knew their lives, gifts and resources had been well used. Future generations, they believed, would benefit from their sacrifice and learn from their example. We have done just that.
Each Sunday for the last 100 years, over 5,200 services, have been held to draw the faithful into a deeper, more committed relationship with God our Creator, Jesus our Savior and the Holy Spirit our Counselor and Provider. In this place our loved ones have been honored, the Word of God has been proclaimed, the Sacraments shared, fellowship kindled, vows taken and gifts shared all in the belief that life is a gift from God that should be cherished and celebrated.
We gather, 100 years later, in a culture radically different than the founders could have dreamt or imagined. Yet we are still guided by the same values, principles and ideals that shaped their lives and continue to inspire us to share our gifts for God's glory and the happiness of our children and grandchildren.
Our mission is simple:
To Make Disciple of Jesus Christ - It's not all about you, what you have, do or even control. Our first and greatest mission is to love God, receive God's salvation through Jesus Christ and to live as children of God.
“God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love – like Christ in everything.” Eph. 4:15a (Msg)
“We are not meant to remain as children…” Eph 4:14a (Ph)
Make A Difference - The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference. Faith become RELEVANT when we put it into action. To love our neighbor as ourselves will make a world of difference.
A review of the history, mission and faithfulness of the people who called First United Methodist Church, Williamstown, West Virginia - home.
