Haiti 2015 Day 1
Today is our first day and the purpose is to find our way, get acclimated to the temperature and get some rest. Last night was horrible. It rained initially, so we brought our beds from the roof under a porch, When we thought it had passed we moved back to the roof. We were wrong. It rained again and we moved under the porch again. But the heat was stifling and the mosquitoes were relentless. By 2:30 am we were spend and went back to the roof again carrying our mattresses and metal frames each time. We ended up getting a couple of hours of sleep. Our mosquito bites are bad and were so tired, but this is Haiti and we're all in this together. Today we visited Pastor Luc's church / school, met an elderly lady who's husband died and she has no means of support, and of course played with the boy. Pastor Drix has arrived and must speak with him. This note will be short, but I will catch you up soon.
The boys look wonderful! Especially Gens! Sorry you guys had such a rough start. We’re keeping you all in our prayers. Please tell the boys and Mom Barb that I said hello!
Steve
Sorry about all the rain and all the mosquitoes. We are having the opposite problem with lots of snow and ice.
I walked to the church to make a decision regarding the breakfast and it was made for me when I found myself looking at the sky! I did discuss it long and hard with the famine team and reluctantly decided to cancel.
I hope the weather improves for all of you! We are keeping you in our prayers.

And we, in the comfort of our homes with their warmth in the winter, their air conditioning in the summer, and their screens to prevent an all-out invasion of and attack from relentless man-seeking and man-eating mosquitos wonder WHY?
WHY? do you do this.
WHY? do you CHOOSE to do this.
And if we can get out of ourselves, out of our comfort zone and into God’s Word and into the true meaning of His commanded Great Commission, we will “see with eyes that truly see and hear with ears that truly hear” that you are called, that you are chosen, and that “you can and, more importantly, will do no less.”
On behalf of all of us, thank you for following your heart of and for God.
On behalf of all of us, thank You, God, for these Your chosen and called, who, for us and for You, have gone to the House of Faith because of their faith and trust in You in order to share Your Light and grace, which indwells their hearts, with those who need to know You and have Your Light and grace gifted to them by You through the hearts of these “who can do no less.”
We may never know your sacrifices and your hearts for “the widows, the poor, and the orphans,” but we thank you for knowing and for following the Christ’s and the prophets’ repeated command throughout the Bible to care for “the widows, the poor, and the orphans.” May we, too, by watching you living your knowledge of and your devotion to God’s command grow to realize that we, too, “can do no less.”
Did you know that the Weather Channel monitors and predicates the weather in Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas? Of course, you do! I knew it would be raining your first night, and I knew your first night would be spent moving from roof to porch and porch to roof in an attempt to find relief from the sweltering and oppressive humidity and the resultant and ever-present mosquitos. I think you will agree that God missed-out when He did not inflicted the people of Egypt with the plague of this insects! The nine others would not have been needed; Pharaoh would have “let God’s people go” immediately.
Please know that you — each and all of you — have been, are, and will continue being in our ceaseless prayers. The Prayer Hedge does not have to worry about the mosquitos attacking them, but they sure are receiving updates about temperatures and dew points and the chances of rain and, therefore, are praying most fervently for your requested “good weather,” your survival from if not victory over the mosquitos, and for all those other prayer requests that you verbalized in writing prior to your departure by praying purposefully, intentionally, and as one every day at noon.
Once again, “we thank God for you upon each and every remembrance of you”; and we pray that you will find strength and comfort in knowing that you are surrounded by our prayers and God’s all-sufficient grace and that, most assuredly, “you can do all things, all things through Christ Who strengthens you.” Numbers 6:24-26
