Here is a brief update on the adventures of our intrepid explorers in a Haitian world of living, faith and friendship. Yesterday, Thursday 2.26.15, we woke refreshed. Everyone seemed so exhausted from our trip to DBR that we slept with a good solid breeze most of the night, fewer mosquitoes (but still some), and less than the usual raucous from roosters, dogs and motorcycles, oh and gunshots too! Gary was excited to have rice and beans for breakfast (not really) and we began to prepare for the day. The girls organized the candy, toys and letters to be given out that evening, we made bags of soap, medicine, candy and toys for the girl's orphanage at the Rehoboth school down the road, and we anticipated our trip to the beach. From the pictures you can tell we all road in a flatbed truck, and despite our best efforts to get everyone to sit down, some of the older boys stood and hung over the sides. It was like the pool scene in 'Caddy Shack'! Since they wouldn’t listen to Gina or William, they certainly weren’t going to listen to us either. The good news is we arrived safely. We left the HOF around 3:30, played in the ocean and return by 6pm. We handed out letters, and gifts. Gave hugs and cried a bit, but made relationship I always hope will last beyond this one week. Our little group has bonded well, we’ve shared our resources and everyone had taken part in leading some part of the expedition. Everyone has struggled at some time or another and needed the support and the encouragement of the rest. As we leave here, at least for a time, we have a new bigger family and perspective on God’s world, mission and message for humanity. I know that sounds flowery and perhaps a bit high and mighty sounding, but the Haiti immersion changes you from the inside out. There are no ‘projects’ to be completed, but only people to know and connect with. There is no schedule to follow, only a deepening appreciation of time we have and how we choose to spend it. There is no focus on status, only the ability to serve and care. Haiti is not for everyone and I suppose I should be a bit more clear about what you’re getting yourself in for. But  I think sometimes we all need to be broken of our expectations that come from living life on our terms in order to see and receive God’s amazing life that comes only from receiving it on his terms and on His time table. I hope you have felt connected with us, we certainly have felt connected to you and your prayers.
